Sample Condition
For this test, the sample conditions are as follows:
- 5 mL (4 mL min.) serum from 2 SSTs. Ship refrigerated or frozen
- 2 mL (1 mL min.) plasma from 1 Lavender Top (EDTA) tube. Separate plasma within 2 hours of collection. Ship refrigerated or frozen. Patient should avoid Biotin at least 8 hours prior to specimen collection
- 3 mL (2 mL min.) whole blood from 1 Lavender Top (EDTA) tube. Ship refrigerated. DO NOT FREEZE
- 3 mL whole blood in 1 Blue Top (Sodium Citrate) tube. Mix thoroughly by inversion. Transport to Lab within 4 hours. If this is not possible, make PPP within 1 hour of collection as follows: Centrifuge sample at 3600 rpm for 15 min. & transfer supernatant to a clean plastic tube. Centrifuge this supernatant again at 3600 rpm for 15 min. & finally transfer the supernatant (PPP) to one labelled clean plastic screw capped vial. FREEZE IMMEDIATELY. Ship frozen. DO NOT THAW. Overnight fasting is preferred.
- Nasopharyngeal swab & Oropharyngeal swabs in a special Viral transport medium (VTM) available from LPL. Ship refrigerated. DO NOT FREEZE.
Report Delivery
Sample should be submitted daily by 11 am and the report will be available within 2 days.

Test Details
The INTERLEUKIN-6 (IL-6) SARS-COV-2 ADVANCED PANEL test is a diagnostic test used to detect the presence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus and measure the levels of Interleukin-6 (IL-6) in the blood. IL-6 is a cytokine that plays a crucial role in the immune response and is often elevated in severe cases of COVID-19.
This test is typically performed on individuals who have symptoms of COVID-19 or have been exposed to the virus. It can help healthcare professionals determine the severity of the infection and guide treatment decisions. Elevated levels of IL-6 may indicate a more severe immune response and potential complications.
The test involves taking a blood sample from the individual, which is then analyzed in a laboratory. Results are typically available within a few days.
It is important to note that this test is not a standalone diagnostic tool and is often used in conjunction with other tests, such as PCR or antigen tests, to confirm a COVID-19 infection.
The INTERLEUKIN-6 (IL-6) SARS-COV-2 ADVANCED PANEL test can provide valuable information for healthcare professionals in managing and treating patients with COVID-19, particularly those with more severe symptoms. However, it is important to consult with a healthcare provider for proper interpretation and guidance based on the test results.
