GROWTH HORMONE STIMULATION Test
Test Cost: AED 700.0
Symptoms and Diagnosis
The growth hormone stimulation test is a medical test used to assess the functioning of the pituitary gland, which is responsible for producing growth hormone. It is typically performed to diagnose growth hormone deficiency or excess. During the test, the patient is given a substance called arginine or insulin, which stimulates the release of growth hormone from the pituitary gland. Blood samples are taken before and after the administration of the stimulating agent to measure the levels of growth hormone.
The test helps determine if the pituitary gland is producing enough growth hormone or if there is an abnormality in its production. It is commonly used in children with short stature or adults with suspected growth hormone deficiency.
Test Components and Price
- Test Name: GROWTH HORMONE STIMULATION Test
- Components: Clonidine (Arkamine) 300 ug OR 5ug/Kg body weight orally
- Price: AED 700.0
- Sample Condition: 2 mL (1 mL min.) serum from 1 SST for each timed specimen. Draw baseline specimen after an overnight fast. Draw additional specimens at 30, 60 & 90 mins for Growth Hormone. Ship refrigerated or frozen. All containers must be clearly marked with time drawn and submitted with one test request form.
- Other stimulating agents that can be used are: Insulin (0.10 – 0.15 U/Kg body weight IV followed by additional samples at 30, 60 & 90 min). Exercise (20 min. vigorous exercise followed by immediate sampling).
Report Delivery
Reports are delivered daily.
Method
The growth hormone stimulation test is conducted using the Chemiluminescent Immunoassay method.
Test Type
The test is used for assessing Disorders of Growth.
Doctor
The test is usually conducted under the supervision of an Endocrinologist.
Test Department
The test is conducted in the Test Department of DNA Labs UAE.
Pre Test Information
Overnight fasting is mandatory. The patient should be at rest for 30 minutes prior to basal sample collection.
Test Details
The growth hormone stimulation test is usually performed in a hospital or clinic setting under the supervision of a healthcare professional. It is important to follow any pre-test instructions given by the healthcare provider, such as fasting before the test.
Results of the test are interpreted by comparing the growth hormone levels before and after the stimulation. Abnormal results may indicate a dysfunction of the pituitary gland, which can then guide further diagnosis and treatment.
