Test Details
The MYCOSURE TB PCR test is a diagnostic test used to detect the presence of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the bacterium that causes tuberculosis (TB), in a patient’s biological sample. PCR stands for polymerase chain reaction, which is a technique used to amplify and detect specific DNA sequences.
The MYCOSURE TB PCR test specifically targets and amplifies the DNA of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in a patient’s sputum, bronchial washings, or other clinical specimens. This allows for the rapid and accurate detection of the bacterium, even in cases where the bacterial load is low.
The test is highly sensitive and specific, providing reliable results for the diagnosis of tuberculosis. It is often used as a confirmatory test for suspected TB cases, especially in situations where traditional methods like sputum smear microscopy or culture may yield false-negative results.
Early and accurate detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis is crucial for effective TB management and control. The MYCOSURE TB PCR test helps in timely diagnosis, allowing for prompt initiation of appropriate treatment and reducing the risk of transmission to others.
