MITOCHONDRIAL ANTIBODY AMA IFA Test
Cost: AED 400.0
Test Details
The Mitochondrial Antibody (AMA) IFA Test is a laboratory test used to detect the presence of antibodies against mitochondria in a person’s blood. Mitochondria are small structures within cells that are responsible for producing energy.
The test is performed by taking a blood sample from the individual and exposing it to a slide that contains cells with mitochondria. If the person has antibodies against mitochondria in their blood, these antibodies will bind to the mitochondria on the slide. The binding of antibodies to the mitochondria is then visualized using a fluorescent dye. If the mitochondria light up under a microscope, it indicates the presence of antibodies and a positive test result.
The Mitochondrial Antibody IFA Test is primarily used in the diagnosis of autoimmune liver diseases, particularly primary biliary cholangitis (PBC). PBC is a chronic liver disease characterized by the destruction of the small bile ducts within the liver. The presence of mitochondrial antibodies is a hallmark of PBC, and this test helps in confirming the diagnosis.
It is important to note that a positive test result does not necessarily mean that a person has PBC. Additional clinical and laboratory evaluations are required to make a definitive diagnosis.
