Test Details
The HISTOPATHOLOGY KIDNEY BIOPSY PANEL 3 test is a diagnostic procedure used to examine a kidney biopsy sample for various diseases and conditions affecting the kidneys. This panel includes the analysis of different histopathological markers and features to provide a comprehensive evaluation of the kidney tissue.
The specific tests included in this panel may vary depending on the laboratory and the healthcare provider’s preference. However, some common tests that are often included in a kidney biopsy panel may include:
- Hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining: This staining technique helps to visualize the overall structure of the kidney tissue and identify any abnormal changes.
- Periodic acid-Schiff (PAS) staining: This staining method is used to identify the presence of certain substances, such as glycogen and basement membrane material, which can help in the diagnosis of various kidney diseases.
- Immunofluorescence: This technique involves using fluorescently-labeled antibodies to detect specific proteins or antibodies in the kidney tissue. It helps identify immune complexes, complement proteins, and other markers associated with autoimmune kidney diseases.
- Electron microscopy: This test involves the use of an electron microscope to examine the ultrastructure of the kidney tissue, providing detailed information about the cellular and subcellular components. It is particularly useful in diagnosing certain glomerular diseases.
By combining the results of these tests, the pathologist can provide a comprehensive evaluation of the kidney tissue, identify any abnormalities, and make a definitive diagnosis or provide valuable information for the management and treatment of kidney diseases.
