The Folate (Folic Acid) RBC test is a blood test that measures the levels of folate or folic acid in red blood cells (RBCs). Folate is a B-vitamin that is essential for the production and maintenance of new cells, including red blood cells. It is also important for the synthesis of DNA and RNA.
The Folate RBC test is used to evaluate folate deficiency or excess in the body. Symptoms of folate deficiency may include fatigue, weakness, pale skin, shortness of breath, and impaired immune function.

The Folate RBC test provides a more accurate assessment of folate status compared to the regular serum folate test, as it measures the levels of folate inside the red blood cells where it is actively used.
