CARCINOID TUMOR PANEL Test
At DNA Labs UAE, we offer the CARCINOID TUMOR PANEL test, a diagnostic test used to detect and diagnose carcinoid tumors. Carcinoid tumors are a type of neuroendocrine tumor that can develop in various organs, including the lungs, gastrointestinal tract, and pancreas.
Test Components
- 5-HIAA (5-Hydroxy Indole Acetic Acid), 24 Hour Urine
- Chromogranin A
- Serotonin (5-HT), Serum
Test Cost
The cost of the CARCINOID TUMOR PANEL test is 2340.0 AED.
Sample Condition
For this test, we require a sample of 3 mL (2 mL min.) serum from 1 SST and 2 mL (1 mL min.) plasma from 1 Lavender Top (EDTA) tube. Additionally, a 50 mL (10 mL min.) aliquot of 24-hour urine is needed. The urine should be collected with an appropriate volume of 50% HCl to maintain a pH between 1-2. Do not use concentrated HCl. Please record the 24-hour volume on the test request form and urine container. The sample should be shipped frozen without thawing. Proton pump inhibitor medications should be discontinued for at least 2 weeks prior to sample collection. The patient should strictly avoid certain foods (banana, kiwi, walnut, avocado, brinjal, pineapple, plum, tomato) and drugs (Fluorouracil, Melphalan, Paracetamol & Acetaminophen, Heparin, L-dopa, Reserpine, Salicylates, Chlorpromazine, Imipramine, Isoniazid, MAO inhibitors, Phenothiazines, Promethazine), as well as alcoholic beverages, caffeine, tea/coffee, tobacco, and strenuous exercise for at least 72 hours before and during specimen collection.
Report Delivery
The sample should be submitted by Tuesday at 9 am, and the report will be delivered on Friday.
Method
The CARCINOID TUMOR PANEL test is performed using HPLC-EC (High-Performance Liquid Chromatography with Electrochemical Detection) method.
Test Type
The CARCINOID TUMOR PANEL test falls under the category of Disorders of the Endocrine System.
Doctor
This test is typically requested by an Endocrinologist.
Test Department
The CARCINOID TUMOR PANEL test is conducted in the HPLC department.
Pre Test Information
Prior to sample collection, it is important to discontinue the use of proton pump inhibitor medications for at least 2 weeks.
Test Details
The CARCINOID TUMOR PANEL test is a diagnostic test used to detect and diagnose carcinoid tumors. This type of tumor can develop in various organs, including the lungs, gastrointestinal tract, and pancreas. The panel test includes several different laboratory tests that measure specific biomarkers associated with carcinoid tumors, such as serotonin, chromogranin A, neuron-specific enolase (NSE), and 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA). Elevated levels of these biomarkers in the blood or urine can indicate the presence of a carcinoid tumor. The test results can help healthcare providers determine the location and extent of the tumor, as well as monitor its progression or response to treatment.
The CARCINOID TUMOR PANEL test is typically ordered if a person presents with symptoms suggestive of a carcinoid tumor, such as flushing, diarrhea, abdominal pain, or bronchial obstruction. It may also be used to monitor individuals who have been previously diagnosed with a carcinoid tumor.
It is important to note that while the CARCINOID TUMOR PANEL test can be helpful in diagnosing carcinoid tumors, it is not definitive. Additional imaging tests, such as CT scans or MRIs, may be necessary to confirm the presence and location of the tumor. A biopsy may also be performed to obtain a tissue sample for further analysis.
