LIVER FIBROSIS PANEL Test
At DNA Labs UAE, we offer the LIVER FIBROSIS PANEL test to assess the degree of liver fibrosis. Liver fibrosis is the excessive accumulation of scar tissue in the liver, and this test helps in evaluating the severity of liver damage and determining the appropriate treatment approach.
Test Components
- AST (SGOT)
- ALT (SGPT)
- GGTP
- Bilirubin
- Protein, Total
- Alkaline Phosphatase
- Prothrombin time
- Protein Electrophoresis, Serum
Price
AED 390.0
Sample Condition
3 mL (2 mL min.) serum from 1 SST AND 3 mL whole blood in 1 Blue Top (Sodium Citrate) tube. Mix thoroughly by inversion. Transport to Lab within 4 hours. If this is not possible, make PPP within 1 hour of collection as follows: Centrifuge sample at 3600 rpm for 15 min. & transfer supernatant to a clean plastic tube. Centrifuge this supernatant again at 3600 rpm for 15 mins. & finally transfer the supernatant (PPP) to 1 labelled, clean plastic screw capped vial. FREEZE IMMEDIATELY. Ship frozen. DO NOT THAW. Overnight fasting is preferred. Duly filled Coagulation Requisition Form (Form 15) is mandatory.
Report Delivery
Sample Daily by 9 am; Report Same Day
Method
Spectrophotometry, Electromechanical Clot Detection, Capillary Electrophoresis
Test Type
Disorders of Liver
Doctor
Gastroenterologist
Test Department
Pre Test Information
Overnight fasting is preferred. It is recommended that the patient discontinues Heparin for 1 day and Oral Anticoagulants for 7 days prior to sampling as these drugs may affect test results. Discontinuation should be with prior consent from the treating Physician. Duly filled Coagulation Requisition Form (Form 15) is mandatory.
Test Details
The LIVER FIBROSIS PANEL test is a diagnostic tool used to assess the degree of liver fibrosis, which is the excessive accumulation of scar tissue in the liver. This test helps in evaluating the severity of liver damage and determining the appropriate treatment approach.
The panel typically includes several biomarkers that are associated with liver fibrosis, such as:
- FibroTest: This blood test measures the levels of various proteins and enzymes, including alpha-2-macroglobulin, haptoglobin, apolipoprotein A1, gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase, and bilirubin. The results are combined to calculate a FibroTest score, which indicates the degree of fibrosis.
- FibroScan: This non-invasive imaging technique uses ultrasound waves to measure the liver’s stiffness. Higher stiffness indicates more advanced fibrosis.
- Enhanced Liver Fibrosis (ELF) test: This test measures three biomarkers – hyaluronic acid, tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase 1, and amino-terminal propeptide of type III procollagen. The results are combined to provide an ELF score, which correlates with the severity of fibrosis.
- AST to Platelet Ratio Index (APRI): This simple blood test calculates the ratio of the liver enzyme aspartate aminotransferase (AST) to the platelet count. Higher ratios indicate more severe fibrosis.
By combining the results of these tests, healthcare providers can assess the degree of liver fibrosis and determine the appropriate treatment plan, including lifestyle changes, medication, or liver transplantation if necessary.
