Factor XI Functional Test Cost AED:730.0 Symptoms Diagnosis
At DNA Labs UAE, we offer the Factor XI Functional Test at a cost of AED 730.0. This test is used to evaluate bleeding disorders, such as hemophilia or other clotting factor deficiencies. It measures the activity of factor XI in the blood, which plays a role in the blood coagulation cascade.
Test Details
The Factor XI Functional Test is performed by drawing a sample of blood from the patient. The sample should be 3 mL of whole blood in 1 Blue Top (Sodium Citrate) tube. It is important to mix the sample thoroughly by inversion. The sample should be transported to our lab within 4 hours. If this is not possible, the sample should be processed as follows:
- Centrifuge the sample at 3600 rpm for 15 minutes.
- Transfer the supernatant to a clean plastic tube.
- Centrifuge the supernatant again at 3600 rpm for 15 minutes.
- Transfer the supernatant (PPP) to a labeled, clean plastic screw capped vial.
- FREEZE IMMEDIATELY. Ship frozen. DO NOT THAW.
It is recommended that patients undergo overnight fasting before the test. Additionally, a duly filled Coagulation Requisition Form (Form 15) is mandatory for the test.
Method
The Factor XI Functional Test uses photo-optical clot detection as the method of analysis.
Test Type
The test falls under the category of Disorders of Coagulation.
Doctor and Test Department
The test is conducted by a Hematologist in our Test Department.
Pre Test Information
It is recommended that patients undergo overnight fasting before the test. A duly filled Coagulation Requisition Form (Form 15) is mandatory. It is also important that patients discontinue Heparin for 1 day and Oral Anticoagulants for 7 days prior to sampling, as these drugs may affect test results. Discontinuation should be done with prior consent from the treating Physician.
Test Results and Diagnosis
The Factor XI Functional Test measures the activity of factor XI in the blood. It helps determine if there is a deficiency or dysfunction of factor XI, which can lead to prolonged bleeding or abnormal clotting. The test involves adding specific reagents to the blood sample to initiate the clotting process and measuring the time it takes for the clot to form. This time is compared to a normal range to determine the functional activity of factor XI.
The results of the test can help diagnose factor XI deficiency or dysfunction and guide appropriate treatment. Treatment may include factor XI replacement therapy or other clotting factor medications to prevent or control bleeding episodes.
It is important to note that factor XI deficiency is relatively rare and may not cause significant bleeding symptoms in all individuals. Therefore, the test is typically ordered for patients with a personal or family history of bleeding disorders or for those who have prolonged bleeding after surgery or trauma.
Overall, the Factor XI Functional Test is a valuable tool in evaluating clotting disorders and guiding appropriate treatment for patients with factor XI deficiency or dysfunction.

Factor XI is a clotting factor that plays a role in the blood coagulation cascade. It is involved in the activation of factor IX, which ultimately leads to the formation of a stable blood clot.
