Test Details
The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) Comprehensive Panel Test is a blood test that includes several different tests used to detect and monitor HIV infection. These tests are:
- HIV Antibody Test: This test looks for antibodies produced by the immune system in response to HIV infection. It is the most common test used to diagnose HIV infection.
- HIV Antigen Test: This test looks for the presence of specific proteins produced by the HIV virus. It can detect HIV infection earlier than the antibody test.
- HIV RNA Test: This test looks for the presence of the genetic material (RNA) of the HIV virus. It is used to detect HIV infection in the early stages, especially during the acute phase when antibody levels may not be detectable.
- CD4 Count: This test measures the number of CD4 T cells in the blood. CD4 T cells are a type of white blood cell that is targeted and destroyed by HIV. Monitoring CD4 count helps determine the progression of HIV infection and the effectiveness of treatment.
- Viral Load Test: This test measures the amount of HIV RNA in the blood. It is used to monitor the effectiveness of antiretroviral therapy (ART) and to assess the level of HIV replication in the body.
The Human Immuno Virus COMPREHENSIVE PANEL Test provides a comprehensive assessment of HIV infection, including the stage of infection, the level of viral replication, and the immune response. It is an important tool for diagnosing and managing HIV infection. Regular testing is recommended for individuals at risk of HIV infection or experiencing symptoms of HIV to ensure early detection and prompt treatment.
