CATECHOLAMINES PLASMA Test
At DNA Labs UAE, we offer the CATECHOLAMINES PLASMA Test to measure the levels of catecholamines in the blood. Catecholamines, including dopamine, norepinephrine, and epinephrine, are hormones released by the adrenal glands that play a role in regulating blood pressure, heart rate, and stress response.
Test Details
The CATECHOLAMINES PLASMA Test is typically ordered to help diagnose and monitor conditions such as pheochromocytoma, a rare tumor that affects the adrenal glands and causes excessive production of catecholamines. Symptoms of pheochromocytoma may include high blood pressure, rapid heart rate, and excessive sweating.
Test Components
- Epinephrine
- Norepinephrine
Test Price
The cost of the CATECHOLAMINES PLASMA Test is 1700.0 AED.
Sample Condition
For this test, we require 8 mL (4 mL minimum) of plasma from 4 pre-chilled Green Top (Sodium Heparin) or Lavender Top (EDTA) tubes. It is important to adhere to the requested specimen volume. The specimen should be collected from a patient at rest for 30 minutes after insertion of an IV cannula, with the patient in a supine position. The specimen should be immediately immersed in ice water and separated within 10 minutes. It should then be transferred into a sterile screw capped vial and frozen immediately. Please do not thaw the specimen.
Pre Test Information
Prior to the CATECHOLAMINES PLASMA Test, it is important for the patient to strictly avoid certain medications and activities that may interfere with the results. These include drugs like Aldomet (Alpha methyldopa), Labetalol, Isoproterenol, Isoetharine, Alpha-one blockers, Aminophylline, Amphetamines, Ampicillin, Beta-blockers, Ephedrine, Imipramine, Nicotine, Phenacetin, Theophylline, Phenothiazine, Vasodilators (Minoxidil, Nitrates & Hydralazine), Aspirin, PAS, Alpha-2 agonists, Bromocriptine, Calcium channel blockers (long term use), L-dopa, Cimetidine, clofibrate, MAO inhibitors, Propranolol, Penicillin, Reserpine, Thyroxine, vigorous exercise, severe stress, and cigarette smoking. These should be avoided for at least 72 hours before and during specimen collection.
Report Delivery
The report for the CATECHOLAMINES PLASMA Test will be delivered within 1 week.
Method
The test is performed using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC).
Test Type
The CATECHOLAMINES PLASMA Test is categorized under Cancer tests.
Doctor
The CATECHOLAMINES PLASMA Test is typically ordered by an Oncologist or Physician.
Test Department
The test is conducted in the HPLC department.
It is important to consult with your healthcare provider for any specific instructions or concerns before undergoing the CATECHOLAMINES PLASMA Test.

Test Details | The Catecholamines Plasma Test is a blood test that measures the levels of catecholamines in the blood. Catecholamines are a group of hormones that include dopamine, norepinephrine, and epinephrine. These hormones are released by the adrenal glands and play a role in regulating blood pressure, heart rate, and stress response. The test is typically ordered to help diagnose and monitor conditions such as pheochromocytoma, a rare tumor that affects the adrenal glands and causes excessive production of catecholamines. Symptoms of pheochromocytoma may include high blood pressure, rapid heart rate, and excessive sweating. During the test, a blood sample is taken from a vein in the arm. The sample is then sent to a laboratory for analysis. The results of the test can help determine if catecholamine levels are within normal range or if further investigation is needed. It is important to follow any instructions provided by your healthcare provider before the test, such as fasting or avoiding certain medications that may interfere with the results. |
